Millbuies Trout Fishery
Millbuies Trout Fishery

Millbuies Trout Fishery is one of Scotland's hidden gems in trout fly fisheries. Set in secluded and peaceful woodlands, it is 13 acres of superb trout fishing. Consisting of 2 lochs interconnected with depths to 10 feet and deeper to 20 feet in certain areas. It is made up of all boat, with NO Bank fishing allowed. There are 6 boats available each day, all year round and consists of 2 daily sessions. Two Float tubes are allowed per day on the lochs.

All boats have to be booked and keys can be picked up at the Glen of Rothes trout fishery, who are the proprietors of the lochs, which is open 7 days a week, staff will pick them up at the end of sessions at Millbuies or placed in box at fishery if you need to leave early. The only time keys are picked up at the fishery is for the day session,or evening session if no boats are out during the day.

Being set in superb woodland, there is plenty of shelter from the elements and its only in winter time that the lochs may close due to severe weather. The wildlife adds to the special tranquil atmosphere and while fishing, deer, birdlife, squirrels all can be observed, while spending a relaxing day fishing for Wild Brown Trout, Rainbow, Blues and Tiger trout. Stocked with full tailed and fully finned quality fish from 1lb 8ozs to 5lbs being the main stock, as these present better sport for anglers. Some up to double figures will be stocked throughout the year also to add a little spice. All catches are recorded and there is a good restocking programme for the water, but like all fishing, you need to catch them.

It is a popular beauty spot and has scenic walks which many enjoy around the loch and is a clean and well kept water which those who use it respect. CCTV cameras are placed around the lochs for anglers safety and staff are available through out the day or can be contacted at any time on telephone numbers which are signposted around the area also. If you want to get away from all the hustle and bustle, you wont be disappointed here.

All consideration must be given to other anglers at all times and we ask that anglers move frequently so as others can enjoy the fishing and lochs also.We will ask you to move if we feel you have been anchored too long in one position.

The aim of this water is so as people can enjoy a pleasing ,peacefull day fishing for the sport of fly fishing and enjoy the surroundings which are second to none.It is not about the biggest fish or the number of fish here but the sport, which is first class.Respect of the lochs and other anglers at all times is requested by the fishery.

Millbuies is located only 5 miles from Elgin on the main Elgin to Rothes Road, as is the Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery. It is well signposted at Fogwatt to the fishery. The fishery is also a Troutmaster water.

Personal electric engines ONLY can be used by anglers if they have their own,but the fishery doesnt supply these.

It is the fishery policy that ALL Wild brown trout,Blues and Tiger trout are returned to the water.

The lochs have continued to fish well benefiting from the abundance of freser water with the burns running well. All boats returned good day catches.J Shearson had 2 good outings in the float tube with 9 and 4 fish best at 4lbs and some Blues returned,S Goramka had 14 with a nice 4lb 8ozs fish,C Stuart had 6 best at 4b and 4ozs,J Ovens had 7,Nig Burgess had 8,S Bremner 18,D Macky had 1,R Wilkinson 2,I Bradshaw 3,R Shand 2, J Robertson 3,C Boyle 10 and M Geddes had 16. Best tactics have been intermediate lines with black tadpole patterns, but there has been times when good rises have been showing that given the weather the dry fly sport should be good with floating line and drys. This is something the lochs were never renowned for but things are looking alot different and sport looks good for anglers.
